Rava Upma

Breakfast Receipe:

Quantity : Breakfast/snack for 4 people

Ingredients:
2 cup fine Rava
4-5 cups of water
1 Carrot - chopped into small pieces
1 big onion - chopped finely
1/4 cup green peas
1 medium size green pepper- chopped finely
1 inch ginger - minched/chopped very finely
4 small green chillies- cut into small pieces
Urad dal - to temper
Mustard seeds- to temper
Curry leaves - 1 full strand
Hing - to temper
4 tbsps homemade ghee
Salt
Jeera - to temper
Freshly grated coconut - garnish.
Fnely chopped fresh coriander - garnish

Procedure:

1. Heat kadai and roast rava on a medium flame . Stir continuously so that the rava does not get over roasted . Roast till it turns light brown. You will smell fresh roasted aroma as an indicator that it is almost done . Remove from flame and spread on a plate to let it cool .
2. In another container keep the 4-5 cups of water for boiling .
3. In the same kadai now heat all the ghee. When hot enough , put jeera , mustard , hing and urad dal . Let the urad dal turn slightly brown and all mustard seeds splutter. Now add green chilies, curry leaves and ginger.
4. Stir well once and add the chopped onions now .Add salt and mix well . Cover it now and let it cook .
5. Check in 2 mins . Once the onions turn transparent , add the chopped carrots and green pepper . Also add the peas now so that everything cooks together well . Cover for 2-3 mins . Check in between if the vegetables are cooked .
6. Once all the veggies are cooked , add the roasted rava  and mix well . Add additional salt if necessary .
7 .  Now add boiling water to this and mix well . Cover it for 4-5 mins and check if it is well cooked.
Add ghee from top if it looks sticky and mix well .
8. Take a small cup (vaati) and apply ghee to it . Fill it with upma completely and smooth the edges . Flip it over on a plate to give hot upma mould . Sprinkle freshly grated coconut and finely chopped coriander over it .

Rava Upma is ready to relish . Serve hot .
